making Jesus famous
Discovery Church was started in the summer of 2002, so relatively speaking it is a new church.
Some people might ask; Why does Wharfedale need a new Church?
The answer lies in the words of Jesus: "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Matthew 28:18-20)
These words better known as the Great Commission have as much relevance today, to you and me, as they were to those early disciples. Today Christians all over the world have a responsibility to make Jesus Famous in their locality and to their generation.
The incredible power of God's Salvation through Jesus Christ, only happens when you and I hear those words loudly and clearly today and decide to get up out of our seat and embrace God's destiny for our lives.
Jesus didn't say: All the world will know that you are my disciples by the modern and trendy songs that you sing, or by the fancy PowerPoint presentations that you use, But that you LOVE one another.
We're not here to be better than any other church, or replace any church, we are here because;
The world at its worst needs the Church at its best!
Here at DC we simply believe that different churches will reach different people with the love and power of Jesus.
It's not about personalities, neither is it about being hip and modern, it's about making JC famous in Wharfedale.
Were here to support and build upon the Christian witness in this area, and to reach out to people in a way that's fresh, contemporary and most of all God-inspired.
We believe that it's time for the church to shake off its old drab image and that it's time the church started to look good again.
We want to be a contemporary church, with an eternal message! The message is eternal, it never changes, but the presentation and packaging can. Just think how many times Kellogg's Corn Flakes have changed their packaging, but the corn flakes have never changed.
Many churches think that if they change their packaging they'll lose the essence of Christianity. The truth is the packaging doesn't matter, it's the content that does, and it's JC being at the centre that counts.
God has given us a Vision for the future. Our Vision is long term, exciting and faith inspired.
We believe that God is going to build His church healthy and strong. We believe that God is going to grow Discovery Church both in number and influence.
If you would like to be involved in something that's relevant and that will ultimately change your world, why don't you come along and meet us?
For your success,
Pastor Dan
